Industry 4.0 Hackathon -  May 7 & 8, 2024

Revolutionizing Manufacturing Through Innovation

Welcome to HackFactory! Join us as we dive deep into the heart of Industry 4.0, bridging the gap between academic brilliance and the pressing needs of the industrial world. Organized by the Mälardalen Industrial Technology Center (MITC) and in partnership with Idélab at Mälardalens University, HackFactory is not just an event—it’s a movement towards smart, sustainable manufacturing and innovation.

Dive Into Challenges That Matter

CHALLENGE #01: Business Model for Smart Factory

Sector: Business, Management, Innovation, Manufacturing

The Challenge: The Smart Factory at MITC seeks innovative minds to develop a sustainable business model that ensures financial viability and fosters advancements in smart manufacturing. This model should bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, demonstrating Industry 4.0 in action.

Address Specific Needs: Design strategies that promote technological advancements and a collaborative learning environment.

Sustainable Growth: Develop models that support the Smart Factory’s operation, innovation, and broader impact.

Blueprint for Future Collaborations: Showcase how theoretical knowledge can be transformed into practical, market-ready solutions.

Why It Matters: A comprehensive business model is crucial for the Smart Factory to serve as an innovation hub and attract future academic-industry partnerships.

CHALLENGE #02: Optimization of Machine Layout in Smart Factory

Sector: Design, Simulation, Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial Design

The Challenge: Innovate the layout of the Smart Factory to integrate a magnetic levitation conveyor belt system efficiently. The goal is to connect various manufacturing machines in a compact, cost-effective manner that supports seamless production flow.

Minimize Conveyor Length: Strategically position machines to reduce the required length of the conveyor belt.

Support Production Flow: Ensure the layout supports efficient transfer times and production processes.

Accommodate Machine Needs: Consider physical constraints and operational needs in the layout design.

Why It Matters: An optimized layout enhances production efficiency and scalability, reducing installation and maintenance expenses.

CHALLENGE #03: Energy Consumption Analysis Dashboard for Manufacturing

Sector: Software, Data Analytics, Data Visualization, Manufacturing

The Challenge: Address the dual challenge of rising energy costs and the need for environmental sustainability in manufacturing. Develop an interactive, data-driven dashboard that offers real-time insights into energy consumption patterns, supporting efficient energy management.

Real-Time Monitoring: Integrate IoT devices for live tracking of energy usage.

Predictive Analytics: Utilize data analytics for energy-saving forecasts and trend analysis.

Sustainability Focus: Help manufacturers reduce operational costs and carbon emissions.

Why It Matters: Enhancing energy efficiency is vital for the manufacturing sector’s competitiveness and commitment to environmental sustainability.

CHALLENGE #04: Solutions for Smart Maintenance in Manufacturing

Sector: Software, Data Analytics, IoT, AI, Hardware, Sensor

The Challenge: Develop solutions that enhance maintenance practices in manufacturing, leveraging Industry 4.0 technologies for smarter, predictive maintenance strategies.

Real-Time Condition Monitoring: Utilize IoT sensors for continuous equipment monitoring.

Predictive Maintenance: Apply machine learning and AI for failure prediction and maintenance scheduling.

Integrated Planning: Ensure maintenance solutions seamlessly integrate with manufacturing systems.

Why It Matters: Smart maintenance solutions are key to ensuring machinery reliability, reducing downtime, and advancing sustainable manufacturing practices.

From idea to prototype, we challenge you to dream, design, and deliver solutions that could revolutionize the manufacturing industry.
